Effective Leadership Strategies Ford Motor Company

Effective leadership strategies are essential to for any company or organization to be profitable or successful. This is especially true if your organization is a global competitor in a market sector that depends on innovation and teamwork to be profitable. In 2006, after 103 years of manufacturing some of the world’s most iconic automobiles, Ford Motor Company faced a financial crisis of nearly $13 billion in annual loss. The company at the time, led by President William C. Ford Jr., was on the brink of financial ruin and bankruptcy. Something had to be done to save the company, something had to change to bring Ford Motor Company back into the black. With bankruptcy and government intervention looming, William Ford Jr., hedged his bets on an aeronautical engineer to lead his company. Alan Mulally, with little automobile industry experience, would eventually lead Ford Motor Company from losses in the $14 billion dollar range to posting profits for the last 5 years in a row (Ni sen, 2013) According to an article in Bloomberg Business Weekly by David Kiley (2007), William Clay Ford Jr. stated, â€Å"Alan was the right choice to be CEO, and it gets more right every day.† Challenges Mulally faced many challenges when he arrived in Dearborn.
